Winter Home Heating and Energy Tune-Up Kits
With the rising heating costs this winter it is critical that we take steps to winterize our homes. DCEC in participation with the New York Power Authority will be distributing "Winter Home Heating and Energy Tune-Up Kits". Eligibility criteria is listed below for area residents. If you are eligible you can pick up one of these kits at the DCEC office.
These kits are in a reuseable bag made of recycled materials and include more than a dozen different products that, when properly installed and used together, can lower an average home's annual heating bill by approximately 10-15 percent (about $200).

These kits include:
- Caulk for doors and windows
- Weather-stripping and door sweeps
- Shrink-fit window kits
- Compact fluorescent bulbs
- LED nightlight fixture
- Hot-water temperature gauge
- Refrigerator thermometer
- Low-flow showerhead and faucet aerators
These kits may also include:
- Radon gas testing kit
- Information on additional energy savings tips

Participation in HEAP is not necessary to benefit from this Winter Home Heating and Energy Tune-Up Kit program. Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are also eligible to receive the Winter Home Heating and Energy Tune-Up Kit.
