Delaware County Electric Cooperative (DCEC) announced on Thursday, August 11, 2005 about an advanced-technology residential power generation project in Delaware County. Under a $300,000 grant provided in 2003 under a U.S. Congressional Earmark, DCEC will procure, install, test and demonstrate a highly efficient, clean energy project that will power a home in the Town of Tompkins, Delaware County, NY. In addition, as part of the joint New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Storage Initiative, $175,000 will be provided for an integrated power electronics and energy storage system. A celebration event was held at DCEC Headquarters located at 39 Elm Street in Delhi, New York on August 11th to kick off this event. Click here for the full press release!

March 2004 - DCEC Wins Federal Funding for Fuel Cell Project
Delaware County Electric Cooperative has been awarded a $300,000 Congressional Earmark to host a Residential Fuel Cell Demonstration project.
The project will involve the purchase, installation, operation and testing of a small scale Fuel Cell. DCEC will execute the project in coordination with the United States Department of Energy and the Cooperative Research Network, a department within NRECA.
By generating power at remote locations, cooperatives may be able to manage load growth better while avoiding costs associated with building distribution lines to remote locations. Planning for the project is underway. More details will follow.
